Evolution of Gaming Centre for Digital Media

Hosted by the Centre for Digital Media (CDM), Evolution of Gaming is a retrospective, interactive exhibit that celebrates the early history of video games. Please join us for a walk down memory lane as we look at how games have shaped our culture, defined a generation, and set the foundation for games to come. Featuring consoles, games and plenty of hands-on interactive exhibits to enjoy, Evolution of Gaming runs from Friday, August 1st to Sunday, August 10th, 2014.  There are three time slots available per day for the free public visits:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m. 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. 

Richmond Maritime Festival
11am - 6pm Fri, Sat, Sun 
Britannia Heritage Shipyard - 5180 Westwater Drive in Steveston
Join Richmond in exploring its maritime heritage with the 11th annual Richmond Maritime Festival, a three-day celebration of nautical and natural splendour taking place from August 8 to 10, 2014 at Britannia Heritage Shipyard in Richmond. Learn local lore from a storytelling mermaid, wharf rat and statues brought to life. Enjoy live music, dancers, art, and hands-on fun for all ages. Eat at locally renowned food trucks and on Friday, August 8, take in an outdoor concert featuring the roots blues, zydeco, swamp pop and folk sounds of The Swamp Dogs from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

West Vancouver along the waterfront on Argyle Avenue, from 14th Street to 17th Street.
Harmony Arts Festival, presented by Odlum Brown Limited, takes place August 1-10, 2014  For more than two decades the Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver has been one of the North Shore’s best loved community events. This festival is a celebration of music, performance, cinema and art that celebrates the best of the North Shore, regional and national performing, visual and culinary arts.  The Harmony Arts Festival continues to grow with more musical performances, new artist workshops, artsy kids studio, exhibitions of visual arts with a juried group show, upscale art market with over 80 tents, dance and drum performances, new food cart area, children’s art auction, free outdoor movies.

The Golden Dumpling Cookoff and Derby

Back by popular demand, Vancouver’s Golden Dumpling Cook Off joins forces with the Chinatown Festival on August 10th. Serving the savoury morsels street-side, traditional Chinese restaurants will cook up the classics while the city’s hippest hotspots will plate fresh takes on the filling-and-wrapper format. An expert panel of judges will taste their way through entries from 20 restaurants battling to fill, wrap, steam and fry their way to the top. The victorious challenger wins full bragging rights and claims the legendary Golden Dumpling trophy.  Festival-goers won’t want to miss the Dumpling Derby, when prizes are awarded to hungry competitors who duke it out for dumpling domination in a deliciously vicious eating contest.
