Seedy Saturday: Getting garden-ready

For the second year, the Cedar Cottage Food Network and the Vancouver Public Library are proud to present our Seedy Saturday series! At these events, we open up the Kensington-Cedar Cottage Seed Sharing Library for people to bring seeds they've saved or take some home for their gardens. There is also a free gardening workshop that aligns with where we are in the garden season.

Meat Your Maker at Vancouver Winter Farmers Market

across the street from 30th and Ontario Street in the East Parking lot and Plaza of Nat Bailey Stadium
Join us at the Winter Market on March 21 to talk to our 12 meat producers’ onsite about their animals, practices and products! Learn about the meat you are eating by talking directly to the farmers who are raising it.

Tree Talks and Walks – Oppenheimer Park
Saturday, 1pm to 2:30pm

Meet on the park side of the field house on Jackson, between Powell and Cordova Presented by arborist David Tracey. David is executive director of Tree City, a non-profit organization “helping people and trees grow together”. David also leads workshops on organic fruit tree selection and care. This park is the site of “Legacy Sakura”, trees planted in 1977 to commemorate the centennial of the first generation of Japanese who came to settle in Canada. The walk will include the history of the trees and many other points of interest within a six block circumference of the park.

The meet will be part of Worldwide InstaMeet 11 taking place that weekend. @beunique and @wongski will gather in front of Pacific Central Station at 1150 Station St. and then walk through Chinatown and Strathcona to find cherry blossoms in full bloom and other visual delights. They will also stop for tasty treats along the way. Participants have a chance to win 3 of Vancouver Candle Co.'s Strathcona candles.

Yukigassen - Snow Battle Vancouver 2015

The second annual Canadian Cancer Society Yukigassen - Snow Battle Vancouver 2015. What is Yukigassen? Also known as Japanese Snow Battle, Yukigassen is the perfect winter team sport for all ages and skill levels. Teams of 7 will battle each other in 3-minute long periods, attempting to eliminate the opposing team with snowballs or capturing their flag. This year’s event will be held at Robson Square, which will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the occasion.
