Another game launch! Call of Duty: Black Ops II was another highly anticipated game and the sequel to the 2010 game Call of Duty: Black Ops. I attended the launch party at Cambie Best Buy on Monday night to get a sense of what the game was like.

Some of the first people to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2!

To be honest, I had expected more people earlier at the launch party. A lot more people showed up at the very end but not to the extent of the first Black Ops game launch. Perhaps everyone is still playing Halo 4?

The most exciting part (besides playing the game before everyone else) about the launch party was the chance to meet the game developers. They were signing autographs and answering questions from the fans.

Yes, yes, I dressed up again.

Here's me with a member of the street team! These guys make the launch party fun!

Mini competitions that involved jumping jacks and pushups were held for a chance to win some Best Buy gift cards! The street team was making you work for your game. XD

There was also a costume contest! These two best dressed characters each won a Xbox Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Care Package worth $180! Congrats! They impressed the game developers who chose the winners.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is now available in stores and online for $59.99.

Gears of War 3 comes out on September 20th and Cambie Best Buy is hosting midnight launch party! Be one of the first to play Gears of War 3 with Xbox Street Teams and experience it in 3D on LG’s Cinema 3D TV’s.

Cambie Best Buy held a midnight launch of EA Sports' latest game NHL12 tonight. Burrows was present  in to sign autographs. There were two lines: one for the autograph signing and one to purchase the game. The line to see Burrows was, as expected, very long, wrapping around the block while the game line was very short.
At the entrance, a PlayStation tent was set up with multiple screens were fans could try out the game before purchasing it.

Inside the store, Burrows was signing autographs. He was surrounded by many security personnel who were responsible for keeping the area clear of photographers like me. LOL

Best Buy had the midnight launch of World of Warcraft:Cataclysm on monday. There are two versions available. The regular game goes for $39.99 and Collector's Edition is $84.99. For $45 more you get exclusive in-game content, trading cards, art book, soundtrack, behind the scenes DVD and a mouse pad.

It was fairly quiet at the Cambie location. They also hosted a costume contest again. This time two winners got an HP AMD Quad Core and Triple Core respectively. I heard that downtown Futureshop also hosted their own contest. There were a lot of good costumes. In my mind I thought that the person who paints themselves blue would win. And I was right. A girl showed up late with her boyfriend. They both had awesome costumes and but she was all blue. She won the quad core laptop and a guy that dressed up like some kind of mage won second. There were also incentives to line up early. The first 50 people at the Cambie store would get a Steelseries Original WoW MMO mouse! More than 50 people were sitting outside by 9pm already waiting in anticipation.

In addition to the costume contest, there was a draw for the WoW:Cataclysm Collector's Edition...And guess who won it! Blue girl's boyfriend! They are so lucky! What are the odds?! They left shortly after receiving their prizes. A lucky person also won a large vinyl WoW poster.

It was also the midnight launch of Inception and Shrek 4...not that anybody cared.

In other news, I am currently in a contest that BestBuy is hosting on Facebook. It's the Unboxing Day contest and I'm currently in the top 2 and need a lot of help to stay there. I need people to vote for me and you can vote every day until Dec 31. Everytime you vote, you get entered into a weekly draw for a $150 BestBuy giftcard! So the more you vote, the better the chance you will have! Please vote for Jenny Lee. Thank you very much! http://apps.facebook.com/unboxingday/gallery.php?sort=2
Alex Burrows was at Best Buy today! The only the first 300 people had a chance to take a picture with him and get his autograph.
Now this is more like it! Then again Vancouver is a hockey capital. The line wound around the block. We made it just in time!
Burrows is so cute.
Best Buy released New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight series, just past midnight tonight. They had an ad that was delivered TODAY. Their marketing person didn't do a very good job. Nobody's going to look at the flyer on a Friday! Flyers are on the last thing on people's minds on Friday nights! Anyways the they were giving out hats or rings to the first 250 people in line. No more than 50 showed up. The Beat was there too playing loud music hoping to catch other people's attention. The lineup started at 9pm. This was the line up at about 10:30:
This was the ENTIRE line. It is very sad. The Best Buy staff were also playing games with people in the line and giving away $10 gift cards to the winners. There was trivia, dance competition, singing. It was fun. I won a gc for dancing my CRAZY dance! Hahahah!

It was a little weird standing in line with all the diehard fans of the book when I haven't even read one of them. And only having watched the first movie last week that I borrowed from the library, I answered a trivia question wrong.

There was a crazy Jacob lookalike there! He looks SO much like him especially from the side. I only got a bad pic of him but you be the judge. He won one of the three $200 giftcards for the dressup contest. Congrats to him! He really deserved it.
There was also a nice new moon out tonight. Pardon my pun. ;P
