(Vancouver, British Columbia) - Disney Theatrical Productions and Broadway Across Canada announced today that tickets for the highly anticipated Vancouver engagement of Disney’s NEWSIES will go on sale to the public on Monday May 9 at 10:00 am. The Tony® Award-winning production will begin performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Tuesday July 5 for a limited engagement of one week through Sunday July 10.

In Vancouver, NEWSIES will play Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 pm, Saturday 2:00 pm and

7:30 pm, and Sunday at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Beginning Monday May 9, tickets will be available at Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1.855.985.5000. Orders for groups of ten (10) or more may be placed by calling 1.800.889.8457. Advance tickets are available through Front Of The Line ® by American Express May 2 – 4, 2016.

Ticket buyers are reminded that Ticketmaster Canada and Broadway Across Canada are the only official retail ticket outlets for all performances. ABOUT NEWSIES

NEWSIES, the new American musical, features a Tony® Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein and is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, NEWSIES is directed by Tony® nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award® for his work. The entire creative team has reunited to bring the break-out smash musical to audiences across North America.

When it opened on March 29, 2012 NEWSIES was intended for a Broadway run of just 101 performances. The show’s fiercely devoted fans had other ideas, however; they propelled the show to a run of 1005 performances, attendance of more than 1 million and a gross of over $100M.

While on Broadway, NEWSIES set and broke seven Nederlander Theatre house records and became the highest-grossing show from the 2011-12 Broadway season. The show received 23 major theatrical nominations – including eight Tony Award® nods – and won Tony®, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Score and Choreography.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.

NEWSIES is inspired by the real-life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899,’ when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers.

The stage version introduces seven brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman, including a song written specifically for the tour called ‘Letter from the Refuge,’ while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’

Since the film’s 1992 theatrical release and subsequent DVD release, NEWSIES has grown into a cult phenomenon, and for years had been the single most requested title of all the Disney musical films not yet adapted for the stage. (The film featured a screenplay by Bob Tzudiker & Noni White (Tarzan, 102 Dalmatians).)

MAMMA MIA! is a feel-good story set to ABBA’s greatest hits, including “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “Take A Chance on Me” and “The Winner Takes It All”. These are instantly recognizable songs even people who have never seen the musical or movie is guaranteed to know.

I took my friend who has never seen MAMMA MIA! before to opening night, and I had a funny conversation with her before the show started. She was trying to guess what the musical was about:

A: I didn't read the synopsis. All I know is the Mamma Mia song. Everyone knows that...It might be about eating. An Italian family eating pizza.
Me: Are you sure??? (I showed her the program cover)
A: Maybe she gets married and has to decide between a family and being a career woman.
Me: That's not even close.

Even though my guest was way off, she really enjoyed the show. It is hard not to! There was many a head nodding and toe tapping to the beat of the music. These are catchy songs that can be listened to over and over again; it's probably the reason why MAMMA MIA! is one of the most successful musicals of all time and the eighth longest running show in Broadway history.

Other aspects of the show we loved were the costumes. They were very vibrant and some very ABBA-inspired. The cast seemed very fun and Sophie's mom is definitely the star of the show! We also enjoyed all the little dirty jokes in the script. It made the show very fun and spunky.

And my favourite was the end when the entire cast reprised the "Mamma Mia," “Dancing Queen,” and "Waterloo," and invited the audience to clap, sing, and dance along.

So whether you're seeing MAMMA MIA! for the first time or a repeat customer, you're in for a good time with great music.

Broadway Across Canada announced today that individual tickets for the Vancouver premiere of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage will go on sale Monday, November 30 at 10am. The staged musical of this worldwide smash-hit film will play the Queen Elizabeth Theatre from January 12 to January 17. American Express® Cardmembers have access to some of the best seats in the house for all the Dirty Dancing performances. Performances run Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8PM, Sunday evening at 7:30pm with Saturday and Sundaymatinees at 2pm.

“As I learned how many people watched the movie over and over and over,” said Eleanor Bergstein, screenwriter of the film Dirty Dancing and book writer for the musical, “I began to think that what they really wanted was to share more intensely in the event, to step through the screen and be there while the story was happening. And if that was true, then its natural form was the theatre – audiences watching live bodies dancing here and now in the present – on the log, on the bridge, on the dance floor and in the staff quarters at Kellerman’s. Writing it for the stage, I was also able to add more Baby and Johnny scenes, more about the family, more songs I couldn’t afford last time, and, most exciting of all – more dancing.”

“Dirty Dancing is one of our most beloved and timeless properties,” said Lionsgate Television COO Sandra Stern. “Its magic has enchanted audiences on film, television, DVD and digital platforms alike, and it remains a perennial best-seller in our film and television library. The production’s book is written by Eleanor Bergstein and the North American tour will be directed by James Powell with choreography by Michele Lynch based on the original choreography by Kate Champion.

Seen by millions across the globe, this timeless love story features the hit songs “Hungry Eyes,” “Hey Baby,” “Do You Love Me?” and the heart-stopping “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.” London’s Sunday Express says “This crowd-pleasing stage adaptation hits the jackpot!”

It’s the summer of 1963, and 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman is on vacation in New York’s Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents. Mesmerized by the racy dance moves and pounding rhythms she discovers in the resort’s staff quarters, Baby can’t wait to be part of the scene, especially when she catches sight of Johnny Castle, the resort’s sexy dance instructor. Passions ignite and Baby’s life changes forever when she is thrown in to the deep end as Johnny’s leading lady, both on-stage and off.

Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage began as an eight-week staged workshop in Manhattan in the fall of 2001. It was first performed at the Theatre Royal in Sydney, Australia in November 2004 before embarking upon a hugely successful tour of Australia and New Zealand. A new production opened at the Theater Neue Flora in Hamburg, Germany in March 2006 where it broke records for achieving the highest advance in European history.

The production began performances on London’s West End in October 2006 with an £11 million advance and went on to become the longest running show in the history of the Aldwych Theatre. It closed in July 2011 in advance of a two-year UK national tour and then returned to London for a strictly limited season at the Piccadilly Theatre.

The show has gone on to perform across the world in markets as diverse as Utrecht, Holland, Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa. Most recently, it has been represented by a new UK tour (which launched March 2014 in Bristol), a German tour (which launched April 2014 in Berlin) and an Italian production (which launched October 2014 in Milan). The show returned to Australia with a new tour that premiered in late 2014 in honor of the stage production’s 10th anniversary.

The North American tour of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage is produced by Amber Jacobsen, NETworks Presentations LLC, Grove Entertainment and Col Joye in association with Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), the premier next generation global content leader, and Magic Hour Productions.

In-flight entertainment courtesy will be provided by our resident DJ Rocky Fisher (bio below). Get set for epic EDM awesomeness as we travel south and across the border into deepest, darkest Richmond before returning to Waterfront Station. And when the train rolls back back downtown to Terminus, we are offering members our very own version of Star-Alliance treatment with after-party magic. Follow us round the corner, across the street, and to the soon-to-be dismantled Seymour & Hastings Dome, where the DJ action will carry on.
