Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) is a shy boy who has no interest in school and only likes to build remote control helicopters. He is only happy when his elite swimmer cousin Kyle is around but when Kyle leaves for the military, Sawyer grows more withdrawn. One day as he was passing by the beach, he is called to help save a beached dolphin tangled up in a crab trap. He cuts the dolphin free and forms a bond with it before she is taken away to Clearwater Marine Rescue Centre. Sawyer visits the centre every day to visit and help rehabilitate the dolphin, now named Winter by Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdorff), the daughter of Dr. Clay Haskett (Harry Connick Jr.). However, Winter's tail takes a turn for the worst and had to be amputated. She however surprises everyone by teaching herself how to swim again but her new swimming methods would eventually kill her. Sawyer is determined to save his friend and enlists the help of Dr. McCarth (Morgan Freeman), a prosthetic maker to make Winter a new tail. Meanwhile time is running out for the rescue centre when financial problems continue to force them to consider selling or close down, leaving Winter's fate a dismal one.

Dolphin Tale is inspirational story of never giving up and the importance of family. It's a great movie that is based on a remarkable true story. It sometimes feels a bit fake - the actors where too enthusiastic or too depressed but still a great cast. As for 3D effects, there were a few: a whole rogue remote control helicopter scene that was probably put in there for the purpose of 3D will delight children as well as diagrams of Winter's new prosthetic tail that floated off the screen. Other than those there weren't many other 3D effects. No 3D splashes of water I can recall. It's a delightful movie that the younger audience as well as dolphin lovers will enjoy.

Dolphin Tail is in theatres September 23, 2011.

Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) seems to have everything: good job, a house, married to his high school sweetheart, Emily (Julianne Moore), with perfect children when Emily drops a bombshell on him and announces that she wants a divorce. Cal hits rock bottom wallowing in self pity when he meets womanizer Jacob (Ryan Gosling) at a bar. Tired of watching Cal tell his sob story to no one in particular every night, Jacob teaches Cal the secrets to get women to be attracted to him and open up a whole world of possibilities. It is a success but Cal still feels unhappy as he still has feelings for Emily. Cal isn't the only one with relationship problems: Cal's 13-year-old son Robbie (Jonah Bobo) pines over his 17-year-old babysitter Jessica (Analeigh Tipton) while Jacob is questioning all that he has taught Cal after meeting Hannah (Emma Stone) who makes him into a one-woman man.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. is a funny rom-com filled with laughs as well as endearing moments. The superb cast makes make this film this awesome. And yes, Josh Groban is in this movie! Steve Carell makes you be able to pity him by just pure body language and his expressions were hilarious. Ryan Gosling is a dream and plays the handsome player very well. I loved that exotic music and slow-mo embodies the sexiness of a person in this film but my favourite scene was the surprise at the end. I think others will agree with me that it wasn't expected at all. There are some cheesy moments but overall it is a funny, feel-good movie that leaves you satisfied leaving the theatre.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. is in theatres Friday July 29, 2011.

Crazy, Stupid, Love will be in theatres Friday next week (look forward to my review of it on Wednesday) and to celebrate its release Warner Brothers is inviting couples to show how CRAZY, STUPID, and in LOVE they are! The Competition takes place on Tuesday July 26 at 5:30pm at David Lam Park.

Couples will be competing in a series of couple-themed relay races (think three-legged race, egg toss & newlywed game) couples vie for the ultimate date night: dinner for two, advance screening passes to the July 27th screening of CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE and a one-night stay at a downtown hotel!

It is quite a good movie, you won't be disappointed. So don't miss this opportunity to get advance screening passes and swag!

Warner Brothers hosted this event at David Lam Park to celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Many wizards and Muggles came down to be part of this epic event. There were a lot of awesome costumes and creative foods made by fans. And cake! Delicious cake! Advance screening passes, movie soundtracks, t-shirts, caps, magnets, key-chains and posters were given to the most enthusiastic fans. Muggle Quidditch was very interesting to watch. It was like a cross between tag and dodge ball. Looked fun and participants had a great time!

If you are craving more Harry Potter and don't have the coveted advance screening passes to Wednesday night's screening, you may want to check out the 'Harry Potter Relive The Magic' event at Chapters. They say it is all Chapter stores across Canada but you may want to call in to your local Chapters to confirm.

It's hard to believe that the Harry Potter saga will be coming to an end soon. Don't miss the finale HP7: Part 2 in theatres this Friday July 15. I can't wait to see it!

Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is known for being reckless behaviour but is talented test pilot for the United States Air Force. While struggling to deal with his feelings with a tragic accident in the past and the relationship with his co-pilot, his life is turned up when a dying alien shows up and bestows a ring and a green lantern upon him claiming that the ring chose him as his successor. After reciting the oath, Hal is transported to the ancient world of Oa, home of the Green Lantern Corps, a organization tasked with the duty of keeping peace and justice in the universe. Green Lanterns use the power of Will which is channeled through the ring each of them wear. The vigorous training and responsibility of being a Green Lantern overwhelms Hal and he quits. When a seemingly unstoppable evil called Parallax returns to use the power of Fear to devour to whole worlds and threatens Earth. Hal will have to step up and prove that he has what it takes to be a Green Lantern and to save the people he cares about.

Being that I've never read anything about Green Lantern in my life, I wasn't sure what to expect. I've heard from people who have read the comics that the movie follows relatively closely to the original story. The trailer looked promising and I wasn't disappointed. The movie tells the back-story of the Green Lantern Corps and how Hal Jordan was first human to be inducted into the Corps. I liked the story and Ryan Reynolds brought his charm to his character. There were a few funny moments that had the audience chuckling.

The screening was in 3D and though there were some good 3D effects, these were few and far between. A warning to those who are looking for an action movie: most of the film is spent telling the origins of the Green Lantern, the powers of the ring and setting up character relationships. Only at the end is there a big fight between Parallax and Hal Jordan. I would also liked to see the relationship between Sinestro (Mark Strong) and Hal developed more. Sinestro is suppose to be the mentor of Hal and I didn't realize that until I researched about the characters. Despite these points, I enjoyed the movie thoroughly! It's a good fun movie to watch in the summer.

Remember to stay for the credits! Looks like there will be another Green Lantern movie in the future! Hurray!
