Known as the #1 Bubble Tea brand in the world, Chatime delivers high quality drinks in a very customizable orders. Chatime is a franchise that originated in Taiwan 30 years ago and quickly became a global brand, expanding to over 1200 locations worldwide and now is also in Vancouver!

Chatime recently opened three convenient locations in the Vancouver area:
  • 1274 Robson Street, Downtown, Vancouver, BC
  • 1545 W. Broadway, Vancouver, BC
  • 450-9100 Blundell Road, Richmond, BC

I was invited to try the drinks at Chatime by ChineseBites.com at the Broadway location. The drinks were comped by Chatime but my opinions are my own.

Chatime has perfected tea making. To ensure consistency throughout their stores worldwide, Chatime came up with high-tech tea machines that make quality fresh tea with precise proportion, timing and temperature. This guarantees your second drink will be just as good as the first.

Chatime's Top 10 drinks:
  1. Pearl Milk Tea
  2. Grass Jelly Roasted Milk Tea
  3. Taro Pudding Milk Tea
  4. Brown Rice Green Milk Tea
  5. Taiwan Mango QQ
  6. Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea
  7. Mango Smoothie
  8. Red Bean Pearl Milk Tea
  9. Matcha Tea Latte
  10. Chocolate Mousse

Your drink is customizable; you are able to control the sugar level as well as ice options of your drink.

There are also 8 toppings that you can add for 50 cents more:

pearls, grass jelly, coconut jelly, red bean, coffee jelly, aloe vera, rainbow jelly, pudding.

We tried a few of drinks from the top ten.

The friend I brought along ordered the Pearl Milk Tea. She said she always likes to order the default milk tea to judge a place. She was impressed. She said it reminded her of Taiwan.

I had a sample and I thought it tasted really good, too. The pearls were so soft and had just the right texture. Chatime apparently discards the pearls they make frequently so that they ensure that they are always fresh. They also only use the highest quality tea leaves sourced directly from Taiwan; they even have their own tea farm to ensure quality!

The Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea was delicious. I wish I had asked for half sweet though. All the drinks I tried, I think could be half sweet. The Mango smoothie was Chatime never uses any powder only fruit juice. K and I could taste the difference.

I tried the Taiwan Mango QQ as well. Even at 50% sugar, it still had pretty sweet mango taste. I liked it!

What a great bubble tea shop! I loved how customizable your drink is. It's no wonder it became the #1 bubble tea brand in the world. Chatime is a great place to grab something to go if you are feeling thirsty!

Disclosure: The drinks were provided free of charge by Chatime. The opinions expressed in this post are entirely my own and have not been influenced in any other way.

BC Halibut is local and sustainable so what better way to celebrate the start of halibut season than to host a BBQ? Now on its 3rd year, Fresh St. Market's annual Halibut Festival, held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015, draws more and more people each year.

Attendees enjoyed a halibut burger and a drink for only $5. My recommendation is to arrive early if you want to attend the BBQ next year. The lineup was up to 45 minutes long!

The staff works pretty fast as they can!

You can also request "crispy bits"; they'll add the bits of halibut that fell away from the main patty to your burger. Mmmm.

Besides, the BBQ, there was a 32 feet fishing filled with halibut to explore and Holly and DJ Flipout from Virgin Radio were also outside, busting out some tunes, next to the OceanWise booth. While in-store there were samples to try and also 10,000 lbs of halibut on sale!

Halibut can grow to a humongous size! This one fish is 153 lbs!

It was a fun little festival!

It's spot prawn season! The Spot Prawn Festival took place this past Sunday May 17th, 2015 at False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf. This annual festival put on by the Chef's Table Society of British Columbia is in its 9th year; it marks the start of the BC spot prawn season and promotes the local and sustainable seafood. The harvest season usually starts in May and lasts around 6 - 8 weeks during which we can get these delectable crustaceans live.

Demos were held hourly to show off different ways to prepare spot prawns. Chef Sean Blancard from The Beach House Restaurant made an Aburi sushi tower with live spot prawns.
Looks so delicious!

The main event of the festival was the Spot Prawn Boil, where for $17.50, we can enjoy a plate of 3 BC spot prawn, five sides (pickles cucumbers, remoulade, southwestern tomato & avocado salad, roasted vegetables & lentil salad, and herb grits), Terra bread, and sample pours from our sponsors: Salt Spring coffee, R&B brewery, and Summerhill Pyramid Winery.

Delicious!

People were also able to buy spot prawns fresh off the boat at $17 per pound. There were bags of prawns everywhere. Make sure to eat them as soon as possible! Nothing is worse than a dying spot prawn. They release an enzyme that makes their flesh all soft and mushy.

It's only the start of spot prawn season! Lot of restaurants will be serving up their own spot prawn creations and you'll also be able to buy them from the Fishermen's Wharf or your local markets to cook yourself. I'm a fan of just steaming them to enjoy the natural taste of the spot prawn. YUM!

The Tenors gave a live performance at Chapters Robson on Saturday, May 9th, 2015. They were there to promote their new CD Under One Sky. It was also the last event that Chapters Robson will have at this location as they are closing down this location. The rep reassured us that they are in the process of finding another home along Robson.

The Tenors also contributed to the book A Letter to My Mom. Some of their moms were also in attendance! A good crowd gathered to see their performance and the meet and greet afterwards. With Mother's Day the next day, I decided to score some brownie points with my dear aunt who is a fan of their music and get a CD for her.

The Tenors opened with A New Day's Begun.

They came down from the stage during their cover of Bésame Mucho to dance with some people in the audience.

After their performance, they signed CDs and took pictures with fans.
