I better finish off my Montreal posts since my next vacation is coming up soon soon! So the last time, I wrote about the Bank of Montreal. Well it is located around a square called Place d'Armes, which is the second oldest public site in Montreal. Surrounding the square are the buildings: 500 Place d'Armes, BMO, Hotel Place d'Armes, New York Life Insurance Building, Aldred Building, and Notre-Dame Basilica.

 The New York Life Building was Montreal's first high-rise!



In the centre of the square is a monument in memory of Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, the founder of Montreal.

 Paul Chomedey is at the top of the monument while there are other statues of people at the base. Lambert Closse and his dog is one of them.

There were a lot of horses drawn carriages around the square.

 To the left of the horses is the Saint-Sulpice Seminary, which is the oldest structure in Montreal!

A couple weeks back, I attended the wedding of my old childhood friend, K. The ceremony was at Holy Cross Parish in Burnaby and it was beautiful. The reception dinner was held at Gingeri Chinese Cuisine. One whole half of the restaurant was reserved for the reception, while other regular patrons were put in the back room.

I really enjoyed the platter especially the crunchy pork skin and the shrimp tempura. Even though there were many more dishes to come, we couldn't help but get seconds...and thirds... There were some people who didn't show up at our table and also a kid so we had a lot of left over! And by the time the later dishes came out, we all only picked at them.

My last Dine Out Vancouver restaurant, saving the best for last, was Forage, located at the Listel Hotel on Robson Street.

BC spot prawn and seafood chowder, soft-poached egg, smoked chicharrón, pork hock

A lot of my other friends also booked Forage as one of their Dine Out restaurants and they all said the same thing - get the Seafood Chowder! I didn't need very much convincing. It sounded great on paper and our whole party basically ignored the rest of the appetizer options and ordered the chowder. It tasted amazing! So good! I wish the pan it was served in was bigger because it was gone in seconds. I am smacking my lips as remember it. This chowder is also on Forage's regular menu for $12 and I'd highly recommend trying it.

 For our mains, the majority went with the pork belly. Only K and I deviated from the norm.

And I went with the mushrooms! This was a vegetarian dish. Once it was put down in front of me I could smell all of the delicious mushrooms. Mmmm. It tasted great as well but I got tired of chewing the wheat berries after a while lol. I'm glad there was a biscuit included because I used it to sop up all the remaining sauce until there was nothing left in the pan. Delicious!

Wow, that looked amazing. M was the only one to order the parfait and it impressed everyone at the table!

The rest of us opted for the chocolate and raspberry cake. It was nice and light not at all what I was expecting. It tasted more of raspberry than chocolate. The macaroon was very airy. I enjoyed the dessert!

Overall, I thought the meal was delicious and the staff was nice. Worth a repeat visit!

Don't know why I bought a Groupon for Ramen hahah but I did and the expiry date was fast approaching so I had to use it! I managed to convince my sis to go with me on the last weekend.

Ramen Jinya is located on Robson Street near Central Library and it is always pretty busy it seems, at least it is every time I pass by it.

My Groupon allowed me to pick any ramen on the menu and also included a salad, drink, karaage and gyoza. We both decided to try the Special Tonkotsu Black Ramen.

The beverage comes with unlimited refills.

The waitress said that the sweet iced green tea is popular so I opted to try it. It's ok. I think it's just green tea with some honey.

It is the black garlic oil that name is referring to not the colour of the ramen. The ramen isn't the instant noodle type! We were actually kind of disappointed about that lol. The ramen was more chewy and solid than the type we were used to. The broth was good and flavourful. It was pretty big and with the rest of the dishes, we were quite full after. The service was very fast and ramen we had was pretty good. My ramen itch has been scratched.

So many events! It's Chinese New Year this weekend AND we get an extra day to relax on Family Day! What are your plans this long weekend?

The Canucks for Kids Fund SuperSkills competition, powered by Rogers, returns for another year of family fun Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Rogers Arena.  Come see your Vancouver Canucks up close and watch them showcase their skills and agility as they go head to head in challenges like:      Fastest Skater Contest     Accuracy Shooting Challenge     Breakaway Relay     Puck Control Relay     Power Play     Hardest Shot  Net proceeds of the event go to the Canucks for Kids Fund and the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund.

Hey guys, we thought we'd roll with the great publicity we got from our recent feature on the official @Instagram blog/account and invite everyone to join us, @girloclock, @flamedot and @razzy_b, at Gastown on Sunday, 2:00 PM, February 10.     We'll meet at the Gassy Jack Statue for a short Instawalk to Crab Park and then stop for drinks at a nearby pub (we have a bunch of great options – The Alibi, Revel Room – to be determined by number of attendees).     If you're a first-timer, expect a group of warm, friendly people and a really good time. It’s back! Richmond’s annual festival of creativity for kids is bigger than ever and is this year’s can’t-miss Family Day destination.  For just $10* each, register early for one of the Creativity Classes on offer or treat your Pete the Cat fans with a performance by the bestselling author, Eric Litwin. The fee includes all Imagination Stations throughout the Cultural Centre and Performances at the Brighouse Library.  If these special activities are sold out, there are still plenty of opportunities for hands-on artistic fun with the purchase of a $5 wristband, sold on site at the Information Tents outside and Table inside.  Your wristband also gives you free admission for families to skate at Minoru Arenas (11am – 3pm, skate rental not included) and swim at Minoru Aquatics Centre (1:00pm – 8:30pm).

Celebrate Family Day Weekend at Britannia Heritage Shipyard
Britannia Shipyards, National Historic Site has extended hours for the Family Day weekend! In addition to being open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 pm, we will be open from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Friday February 8 and Monday February 11.   Bring your family, walk the historic boardwalk and learn about the history of the site through interpretive storyboard signage. Sign out a Britannia Day Pack*  and have fun exploring the site in a new way with binoculars, scavenger hunt clues and more!  *a limited supply available; first come, first served.

Join us at the Vancouver Art Gallery space for a day of all-ages activities and concerts including local Juno award winners Said the Whale as well as street entertainment, face painting, a hockey shoot out, local artists and more! Other highlights will include educational activities from Science World, Britannia Mining Museum, and the Royal BC Museum. Free ice skate rentals and skating will add to the fun below Robson Street at the Robson Square Ice Rink only a few steps away. Keep your eyes peeled for your favourite mascots and stilt walkers!

And when you're ready...CHALLENGE your family to a walking scavenger hunt that will take you on an interpretive exploration of the whole of Southlands (maybe you'll find a baby donkey? or an eagle's nest with chicks, crazy looking chickens, insect eating plants, mysterious ship building machinery from the 1800's, or tug boats working the Fraser?).
