Time sure flies when we're having fun! Last year, we had a Black and Yellow affair, this year, we're going for a MEME-THEMED PARTAY! Save the date! JUNE 14TH, 2013 for some ermahgerdness with your favourite HiVE bees! You don't want to miss it! #YOLO  Bees, invite your friends and make sure they register, because one does not simply walk to the HiVE... they dance into the HiVE! Check out the hottest Nintendo Wii U games newly annouced at E3 2013. Visit select Best Buy Canada stores this Saturday for your chance to play Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker! Nintendo staff will have sign-up sheets available in-store at 12:30pm, make sure to put your name down to secure a time to play. Gameplay will be available from 1:00-5:00pm. 

From Silence to Embrace

Join a block party celebration in honour of National Aboriginal Day. This year, the block party will be on Saturday, June 15 from 2-7pm, and will include a salmon barbeque, First Nations dancers and drummers, dignitaries, children’s activities, and artisans’ booths. As in previous years, we will be closing off the entire block between 3rd and 4th avenue on Columbia St., and inviting leaders from the Aboriginal community, churches, neighbours, politicians, and artists to experience an Aboriginal celebration and to consider what deeper reconciliation could look like. 

Make Garden Signs and Learn How to Make a Mason Bee House

This workshop is on Kits Car-free Days and we will provide ideas and materials to make (friendly) garden signs. We'll also have a demo of how to make a mason bee house for your garden.

The Vancouver Draw Down celebrates creativity and challenges everyday ideas about what drawing is and what it can do. On June 15 over 35 FREE drawing workshops will take place across the city in community centres, museums, art galleries, neighbourhood houses and public parks.

Kitsilano is doing something different for Car Free Day. Instead of closing off a major street, people throughout Kits are hosting individual block parties with their neighbours on both Saturday June 15th and Sunday June 16th (Father’s Day)

East Van Garden Tour - $12

This self-guided tour will take you into some of the more creative and special areas of East Vancouver. Participants will have the opportunity to visit about a dozen gardens, as well as to see examples of public spaces which have been "greened" by residents of East Vancouver. You can sign up through Britannia, in person, by phone using a credit card (604-718-5800), or online (britanniacentre.org), or you can purchase tickets in person any time between now and June 16th at Figaro's Garden Centre, 1896 Victoria Drive (at 3rd Avenue).

Join us in the plaza between the Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver and Urban Fare for the Shangri-La Farmers Market. Sample fresh local produce and products every second Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Live cooking demos at 12 noon by Executive Chef Wayne Harris. In celebration of Father's Day, our Executive Chef Wayne Harris will be joined by his loyal Sous Chef, his 5 year old son Josh for a Father's Day edition of the cooking demo. Chef will select products from our market vendors to create a special dish for the crowd to sample. After you have finished shopping join us at MARKET by Jean-Georges Restaurant for a special Farmers Market Brunch inspired by products straight from the Farmers Market!

Western Front 40th Anniversary Open House

The Western Front is 40! Join us on June 16 for a day of anniversary celebrations.   League, a project by Germaine Koh, with Cedric Bomford, Ian Verchere, and Bruce Emmett, will take place in and around the building and artist collective Instant Coffee will be serving up snow cones. Scrivener's Monthly, a 'periodical that talks', will be presented inside The Tent Shop. Our interactive music installation Sonic Playground will be on site with new projects by Publik Secrets and Leslie Ross with Square One. Fancy Dress Party, a celebratory screening of works from the Archive and beyond, evokes the history of costume at Western Front with works by Kate Craig, Spartacus Chetwynd, General Idea and many others.   Come by for BBQ! Balloons! Music! Cake! Hat making with Collage Collage! And much more!

Our traditional summer outdoor festival with children and adult entertainment, Italian food prepared by our chefs and our volunteers, a Friends of Ferrari race for children, music and dancing! Car Free Vancouver Day - Commercial Drive

Frying fish over fire, parading drummers, healing gardens, I support Car Free DJs spinning beats and all of your friends and neighbours hanging out. Commercial Drive is the birthplace of Car Free Vancouver Day – thank you, you lovely rebels, you!  From a renegade road hockey game, to a legitimate street festival, this year Car Free Vancouver Society is doubling the Drive festival footprint!

Car Free Vancouver Day - Main Street

From Broadway to 30th on Main St.
Come celebrate with us for what is shaping up to be the biggest street party ever held on Main. We expanded our footprint to 21 blocks and are currently in the process of filling those blocks with as many awesome things as we possibly can. Several mini-festivals, over a dozen community supported stages with dozens of bands, a full kids zone and other kids activities throughout the site. Things like kids’ yoga, button making, art zones, bike lessons, and chalk art. Three full artisan markets, a fashion show, roller derby, dance zones, as well as hundreds of non-profits, local artisans and businesses.

Car Free Vancouver Day - West End

The West End is one of the more diverse neighbourhoods in Vancouver and Car Free Day gets us all out on the street: young, old, families, couples, single folks. We all get together and celebrate our community and the things we love about it. And no cars makes it even funner! Did we mention all the music is acoustic? Oh ya!!!!

This summer, the Chinatown Night Market is bringing a heady mix of time-honoured tradition and new school flavour to the festivities on Keefer Street. Live music, storytelling, and Mahjong; new vendors, more food, and some other stuff that wasn’t here last year like outdoor classic movie screenings and epic ping pong tournaments.
