I was invited to attend a Moosehead food pairing and tasting event on Saturday at the BC Liquor Store on Cambie Street in Vancouver. Attendees were invited to taste Moosehead's award winning lager paired with two dishes prepared by Chef Dale MacKay of ensemble Restaurant.

Moosehead Brewery has been brewing quality beer since 1867, sharing the same birthday as Canada! Since then this Saint John-based company has grown to international proportions and created many award winning beers including the Moosehead Light Lager and the Moosehead Lager which won Gold in North American Style Lager category at the 2011 Canadian Brewing Awards. The Moosehead Lager was the one attendees got to try paired with the food on Saturday.

The Moosehead Lager has a golden yellow colour and has a pleasant strong but sweet aroma. It tasted very fresh, light, crisp and refreshing. I'm not usually a beer drinker but this beer was very agreeable with me. It goes down really smooth. I could see myself enjoying this on a hot day.

Chef Dale Mackay himself was there busy preparing the dishes for us to sample with the Moosehead Lager. Dale was the winner of Top Chef Canada in its inaugural season and is the owner and executive chef of ensemble Restaurant on Robson Street and ensemble Tap on Smithe Street.

Most people are familiar with food and wine pairing but food pairing with beer is gaining popularity to date and Dale was more than happy to support Moosehead Lager with his delicious food dishes.

Dungeness Crab with Pineapple, Daikon and Avocado.

Tomato Gazpacho with Poached Prawns, Garlic, Cucumber, Kalamata

The dishes are light and fresh and go very well with the Moosehead Lager. Both these dishes are available at Chef Dale MacKay's restaurants. The Dungeness Crab Roll is on the menu at ensemble Restaurant and the Tomoato Gazpacho can be found at eTap. ensemble is the fancier restaurant of the two while ensemble Tap has a more casual atmosphere.

Moosehead Breweries is known for brewing great quality beer and it is what they do best. They are the oldest and largest independent brewery in Canada. After brewing beer for 145 years, Moosehead has launched a Journey across the North America to raise a beer to 15 craftspeople who are as passionate about what they make as Moosehead is about brewing the best beer. Moosehead is saluting them all with a toast To All Things Made Well. Moosehead wants you to follow the Journey on Facebook and is giving you an opportunity to win some great prizes each week from each of the craftspeople they visit.
