UBC Farm Student Symposium

Please join us to celebrate UBC student engagement in food sustainability. With more than 150 student projects conducted in collaboration with 18 departments and units, 9 faculties, and 5 schools, the UBC Farm generates much needed information about food system science, farming technologies,community engagement and environmental stewardship while giving students the opportunity to learn in aunique and increasingly rare hands-on way.

For those of you who might think of Celts as the blue woad-painted warriors in Braveheart, we invite you to experience the high culture and artistry of Celtic music and dance, language, customs, and fine arts – all there for you on St. Paddy’s weekend at the Mahony and Sons Celtic Village on Granville St.  Come enjoy free music both days at the Doolin’s Music Stage. Visit the wolfhounds, get something good to eat, browse the fine crafts and wares at the Street Market, slide into one of our many partner pubs and enjoy some Celtic cheer.  Great family fun is to be had at the Kids’ Celtic Corner with song and dance, face painting and swordplay demos.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

The 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the festival’s largest and most popular free event, drawing people from all cultures and all walks of life. This colourful (mostly green) display of fabulous sight and sound takes to the street on St. Patrick’s Day!  Sunday, March 17th at 11:00 AM.  The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will follow the same route as in 2012, beginning on Howe and Davie, proceeding north along Howe to Georgia, and ending at Georgia & Granville Streets. Festival organizers estimate crowds exceeding 300,000 will line the route to cheer on 2000 + parade participants, which includes award-winning pipe and drum bands, Celtic musicians, Scottish and Irish dancers, acrobats, stilt walkers, vintage cars, the Vancouver police motorcycle drill team and pipe band, Irish Wolfhounds, fire and police dogs,  mounted horse drill teams, multi-cultural organizations and performers, local businesses, distinguished guests and much more.

Sprouting, Wheatgrass, Rejuvelac and Nut Milk – $35

In this workshop Grass Root Greens will show you how to prepare your own sprouted raw foods. Discuss the history and health benefits of sprouting, fermenting and juicing at home. Learn about growing wheatgrass, sprouting legumes, fermenting rejuvelac and preparing raw nut milks and cheeses. Class includes demos, samples and recipes as well as the chance to win a wheatgrass growing kit.

BLIM Market

Heritage Hall (15th Ave. × Main St.) 
Blim will be presenting its monthly Market this month to take place indoor at the Heritage Hall. 50 vendors of handmade accessories, jewellery, vintage, pottery, cards, and gifts. Hot food by Open Sesame. Ipod set by Bunny Soldier. 4 raffle draws for Blim Gift Certificate (for workshops and Merch!). Vendors will include baked goods, fashion, accessories, supplies, fine art, vintage items and records, and not be limited to crafts, and there will be a focus on nurturing and promoting creative production in our com- munity. We want to appeal to young, old, hip, plain, babies, animals, men, women, everyone. We are very excited about this event and what it can contribute to Mount Pleasant’s artistic vitality, and how it can help support and encourage the local creative community.
