Cupcake Throwdown 2013

Last Wednesday, A, L and I attended the annual Cupcake Throwdown held at Fortune Sound Club in Chinatown. This was the first time any of us had heard of this event and we were very eager to eat some cupcakes! When we arrived at 7pm, a long lineup had already formed in front of the venue.

When we finally got in, it was PACKED! We were only given 4 tasting tickets ($1 each additional ticket) so we decided to make a round to look at our options before using our tickets. Easier said then done lol. As I said it was packed and it was slow moving to get to all the tables. I ended up tasting 6 cupcakes. Attendees were also given a ballot to vote for their favourite cupcakes.

Here were the final results of the competition:

1st place – Joyce Rose w/ green tea cupcake filled with red bean paste and topped with a black sesame buttercream.

2nd place – When Pigs Fly Pastries "Dreamsicle" w/ french vanilla cupcake with a fresh orange filling and italian buttercream.

3rd place – Nikki Pena w/ the best damn vanilla cupcake you’ll ever eat

Most Original – Pink Ribbon Bakery with the Rootbeer Float

Presentation – Sheryl and Kieran from VCC with the Banana Split

I actually tasted all of them except for the banana split. I sure know how to pick 'em, eh? My top 3 won the 1st place, 2nd place and most original.

Root beer float cupcake. Tasted exactly like a rootbeer float! So yummy!

Some more photos of the cupcakes:

I also tried this latte cupcake, which I also loved.

As well as the Irish Coffee Buttercream cupcake. It had a cute chocolate coffee cup on the top of the cupcake!

The Cupcake Throwdown was a fun fundraising event and $4800 went to help Friends of RainCity Housing, Five Star Footy Club, and Leaky Heaven Youth!
