Apple lovers have the UBC Apple Festival on Saturday and Sunday. The Vancouver Home + Design Show is on all weekend for people interesting in home stuff. Have a great one!

Lego Literacy Building Challenge

Come see the Canadian Master Lego Builder, Robin Sather as he builds a large scale Storybook onsite and enjoy all the other fun Lego activities! The 2013 theme for the 3rd Annual Literacy Building Challenge is Collaboration. Each sponsored team is challenged to use Lego to build a structure symbolic of the collaborations that build the community of Surrey. The Literacy Building Challenge raises much needed funds for Early Literacy programs at Surrey Libraries.

From children learning about the diversity of apples to those who remember tasting heritage apples in their youth, the Apple Festival is a great opportunity to not only discover more about this delicious fruit, but have a whole lot of fun doing it! UBC Farm is excited to be joining the UBC Botanical Garden Apple Festival. In addition to a booth on-site at the festival, UBC Farm will be offering tours of the UBC Farm Heritage Orchard on Saturday October 19 at 10am, noon and 2pm. No tours on Sunday.

Pumpkin Patch at River District

Fall is here, and the River District pumpkin patch is back!  On Sunday, October 20, from 12 noon – 4:00pm, play in our backyard pumpkin patch, pose for photos, and pick-out your perfect pumpkin to take home.  The pumpkins are provided by www.urbandigsfarm.com. They will be selling pumpkins for $5 each (cash only).  There will also be lots of fun activities and crafts happening inside the Centre. Come one, come all!

Based primarily in Guatemala since 2006, independent documentary photographer and photojournalist James Rodríguez has produced over one hundred social justice and cultural photo essays documenting Central America’s fragile post-war scenario via the MiMundo.org blog.
