The Chinese New Year events continue! Don't miss the Chinese New Year parade on Sunday and while you're there stop by the Year of the Snake Temple Fair at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden! Also, the annual CIBC LunarFest is on this weekend! This time it is a jungle theme. Well  those are my top events. I'll be there. Will you?

Winter Games Legacy Celebration

Celebrate and commemorate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games with us at Creekside Centre in the former Olympic and Paralympic Athletes Village! This is an all ages event that will feature pin trading, big screen play back of Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Events, games and craft stations for children and much more! This event is FREE and all ages are welcome, pre-registration is not required.

RCCS TD Lunar New Year Celebration at Lansdowne Centre

In the spirit of the Lunar New Year, which brings about family reunions and charitable love, this year’s celebration will include a variety of multicultural performances ranging from the Lion Dance, Chinese Opera, Hip Hop Dance, Folk Dance, Kung Fu, and Taekwondo along with booths for Chinese Calligraphies and Crafts Sales. RCCS will again this year donate all its fundraising sales to Richmond Food Bank. We will also invite other community organizations to host exhibition booths. The Opening Ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m. with performances following until 5:00 p.m.

The HMA will be celebrating Chinese New Year and ringing in the Year of the Snake on the Heights. Hastings Street will come alive with music and dance, as traditional lion dancers will perform a special blessing to bring luck and prosperity to Heights merchants.  Lucky Heights shoppers who spot the lion dancers will receive a fortune cookie or a red envelope, which contain special messages and a chance to win some fun prizes!

Hold onto Your Tongue - International Mother Language Day

Year of the Snake Temple Fair

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden (578 Carrall Street, Vancouver) on Sunday, February 17, 2013, from 10 am to 4 pm. The Garden presents a special “The Year of the Snake Temple Fair”, a “Hot and Noisy” (re-nao) public event that’s based on the Spring Festival temple fair where people entertain, trade, greet, celebrate and pray for a prosperous new year. The Chinese Word “Re Nao” is often used to describe the “hustle & bustle” of crowds on the street. All around the world, the Chinese Lunar New Year is one of the most exciting and colourful holidays. Families and individuals come together to wish each other fortune, prosperity and good health. Entrance by donation. Suggested: $5.

Chinese New Year Parade

The renowned Chinese New Year Parade will return in 2013 for the 40th time. To be held on Sunday, February 17th, 2013, this signature event of Vancouver's Chinatown will feature lion dances, cultural dance troupes, marching bands, martial arts performances and much more. The 1.3-km long route starts at the Millennium Gate on Pender Street (between Shanghai Alley and Taylor Street), proceeds east along Pender Street, turns south onto Gore Street, turns west onto Keefer Street and then disperses on Keefer at Taylor.

Watch a colourful lion dance performance, see a high-flying kung-fu demonstration, enjoy a traditional Chinese zither instrumental music and observe a calligraphy master demonstrate the ancient art of brush writing at our Chinese calligraphy booth.  If you are feeling lucky, give our wheel of fortune a spin for a chance to win an assortment of prizes.
