Richmond Celebrates Hockey Day

Hey guys, we thought we'd roll with the great publicity we got from our recent feature on the official @Instagram blog/account and invite everyone to join us, @girloclock, @flamedot and @razzy_b, at Gastown on Sunday, 2:00 PM, February 10.     We'll meet at the Gassy Jack Statue for a short Instawalk to Crab Park and then stop for drinks at a nearby pub (we have a bunch of great options – The Alibi, Revel Room – to be determined by number of attendees).     If you're a first-timer, expect a group of warm, friendly people and a really good time. It’s back! Richmond’s annual festival of creativity for kids is bigger than ever and is this year’s can’t-miss Family Day destination.  For just $10* each, register early for one of the Creativity Classes on offer or treat your Pete the Cat fans with a performance by the bestselling author, Eric Litwin. The fee includes all Imagination Stations throughout the Cultural Centre and Performances at the Brighouse Library.  If these special activities are sold out, there are still plenty of opportunities for hands-on artistic fun with the purchase of a $5 wristband, sold on site at the Information Tents outside and Table inside.  Your wristband also gives you free admission for families to skate at Minoru Arenas (11am – 3pm, skate rental not included) and swim at Minoru Aquatics Centre (1:00pm – 8:30pm).

Celebrate Family Day Weekend at Britannia Heritage Shipyard
Britannia Shipyards, National Historic Site has extended hours for the Family Day weekend! In addition to being open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 pm, we will be open from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Friday February 8 and Monday February 11.   Bring your family, walk the historic boardwalk and learn about the history of the site through interpretive storyboard signage. Sign out a Britannia Day Pack*  and have fun exploring the site in a new way with binoculars, scavenger hunt clues and more!  *a limited supply available; first come, first served.

Free ice skate rentals and skating will add to the fun below Robson Street at the Robson Square Ice Rink only a few steps away. Keep your eyes peeled for your favourite mascots and stilt walkers!

And when you're ready...CHALLENGE your family to a walking scavenger hunt that will take you on an interpretive exploration of the whole of Southlands (maybe you'll find a baby donkey? or an eagle's nest with chicks, crazy looking chickens, insect eating plants, mysterious ship building machinery from the 1800's, or tug boats working the Fraser?).
