Several festivals and markets open this weekend - International Summer Night Market in Richmond, Farmers Market Trout Lake, Farmers Market Kitsilano and Spot Prawn season kicks off with a festival on Saturday. There's also two plant sales - one at UBC and one in Richmond. And don't forget it's Mother's Day on Sunday! Make sure you treat your mom to something special!

World Migratory Bird Day – Bird Walks

Meet at the specific locations and times to join some of the best birders in Vancouver to learn more about birds. All levels and ages of birders are invited to attend and our guides will help you use binoculars and bird guides to locate the birds. We ask that all children be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The bird walks are open and free for all, but please come early to reserve a spot in case they fill up.

River District Farmers Market

This one-of-a-kind farmers market is the only riverfront market in Vancouver. Come shop for fruits and veggies, prepared foods, and handmade products produced farmers and artisans. Enjoy the waterfront, playground and pier.

A Growing Affair

Spring is here and so is UBC Botanical Garden’s annual plant sale! A Growing Affair! Designed to inform and empower plant lovers of all ages and to engage the local community with a deeper appreciation for all things growing, the event combines informative displays and fun demonstrations for both new and experienced gardeners with an unparalleled selection of plants available for purchase. There are even activities for children to inspire the next generation of gardeners.We will also be offering garden tours, every half hour between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Starting at the gatehouse, tours will be approximately an hour with a general introduction to the Garden. (Note: Space is limited; first come, first served.)

Spot Prawn Festival
11am - 3pm
False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf 
The city’s top chefs will prepare a spot prawn boil at False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf benefiting The Chefs’ Table Society of British Columbia. Get inspired by our cooking demos then grab your own bagful off the fishing boats ($12 per lb) to recreate these dishes at home. 6 chefs will be on stage for spot prawn cooking demos between 11am and 3pm. Mingle with your favourite chefs on Festival day! Ocean Wise and the Vancouver Aquarium provides kids with an exploration of fabulous fish and other cool creatures through hands-on activities and other family friendly events. This is a free family event with cooking demos and kids’ activities. The festival kicks off the BC Spot Prawn season, which continues on for 6-8 weeks. Get your catch daily from 1pm onwards at the False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf (just west of Granville Island). Photos from last year's event here.

Bird Week - Society of Crows, Dr. Rob Butler

Delve into the clever minds of crows, a decade of research of the northwestern crow, and the city habits of large flocks that now reside in Vancouver with ornithologist Dr. Rob Butler. Dr. Rob butler was a biologist and senior scientist in the Canadian government for 28 years. He currently acts as BC Program Scientist for Bird Studies Canada, President of the Pacific WildLife Foundation is an Adjunct Professor of Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University and serves many science and conservation organizations.

HWKRS MRKT at East Van Studios  - $10 RESCHEDULED date to be determined

Hawkers Market is a montly recurring underground evening food marketplace in Vancouver.  We support local vibrant food entreprenuers and give them a place to conduct pop up food stalls (or hawker stands) to sell thier food or products. They are chefs, artisans and dreamers and they know thier food!  Expect a diverse selection of things to eat at the market and take home to try. The market acts as a dining, shopping and social experience.  Hawkers Market takes place from 7pm until late, along with the food you can expect music from Chapel Sound http://chapelsound.com, lights and mingling with people.
