Granville Island Wooden Boat Fest

The Vancouver International Wooden Boat Festival takes in August every year on Granville Island. Check out our displays on land and in the water and learn everything you ever wanted to know about wooden boats. We don’t stop at vessels either; we’ve got a variety of activities for everyone to enjoy including rope tying, family boat building, sea shanties, and more

Church's Chicken Eating Contest at Summer Night Market
7pm - 8pm
12631 Vulcan Way (behind Home Depot on Sweden Way), Richmond
There will be 6 contestants competing each night to see who can eat 10 Drumsticks the fastest. There will be a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Each contestant must be 19 years of age and older. Registration starts at 7pm at the main stage and the contest will start at around 7:30 - 7:45pm.

Join Ned Bell, Executive Chef of YEW Restaurant at 11am as he demonstrates a seasonal recipe featuring delicious local ingredients sourced right from the market. Peter of Pasta Famiglia will also be doing a fresh pasta demonstration in the kitchen that afternoon at 1pm.

Get your breath mints ready, The Sharing Farm’s 5th Annual Garlic Festival is back this August 25th at Richmond’s Terra Nova Park. Open to all ages, this free event combines organically grown artisan garlic and garlic goods with family friendly activities like: live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, exhibitors and everyone’s favourite, garlic ice cream. See how gardeners are encouraging bee and butterfly habitat and building community connections through creative use of their gardens.  Led by artist Mary Bennett whose community herb garden at 6th and Trafalgar has been featured in the Vancouver Sun and CBC TV.

Since 2001, the on-site Saturday Farm Market has provided a unique venue for experiential education and student research, including everything from agricultural business management and marketing to nutritional analysis. Individuals are also welcome to volunteer at the Saturday markets.  In addition to farm-fresh veggies, fruits, herbs, flowers and free-range eggs from the UBC Farm, the Saturday Farm Market also features a variety of other local growers, bakers, craftspeople, prepared food, and live musicians.

Markets will take place Saturdays throughout the summer (with the exception of long weekends) from 4-7pm and feature products grown and produced locally, organically and sustainably. We’ll have fresh veggies, herbs, honey from the farm, eggs, goat cheese, home baked goodies and a selection of local treats!    Bring the family down and enjoy an early evening supporting local agriculture. There will be pony rides for the kids, goats and pot-bellied pigs to visit in the barn, as well as weekly events!

Food Cart Fest - $2

Food Cart Fest is a gathering of over 20 of Vancouver’s top Food Carts presented by Arrival and The Streetfood Vancouver Society. Join us every week this summer for food, fun, and sun complemented by community markets, live music and DJs, craft food vendors, kids activities, and more. Food Cart Fest launches on Sunday, June 23 and takes place every Sunday from 12pm-5pm until September 22. Admission is $2. Children 13 and under get in free. Max rate for families is $5. Chinatown Night Market

This summer, the Chinatown Night Market is bringing a heady mix of time-honoured tradition and new school flavour to the festivities on Keefer Street. Live music, storytelling, and Mahjong; new vendors, more food, and some other stuff that wasn’t here last year like outdoor classic movie screenings and epic ping pong tournaments.
