Beach Volleyball Open 2013

Kitsilano Beach (Arbutus Street between Cornwall Avenue & McNicoll Avenue), Vancouver BC
Canada's largest online eyewear company, ClearlyContacts.ca hosts Beach Volleyball Open 2013. The tournament will be held July 12th-14th at Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver with the women’s finals scheduled for Sunday July 14th at 4pm and the men’s finals scheduled to start at 5pm.  Attendance is free of charge for all spectators and as a part of their partnership, ClearlyContacts.ca will provide great prizing and contests for spectators. With bleacher seating, live music, contests and prizes all weekend long and a brand new title sponsor, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Special guests: Olympian, Josh Binstock and partner Sam Schachter and national champions, Nicole Mcnamara and partner Megan Mcnamara.

Visit YVR any Friday from July 5th to August 30th from 9:00am to 3:00pm for YVR Take-Off Fridays. Enjoy delicious treats, rockin’ beats and spectacular entertainment that will have travellers and staycationers alike eager to get to the airport. Check out live DJs and tons of free entertainment, including local musicians and artists, caricaturists, balloonist, popular airside demonstrations and more. Kids will have a blast meeting mascots, dancing to music, folding paper airplanes and getting their faces painted. On Friday, July 12th, the first Paper Airplane Workshop & Competition will be held. The special event, part of YVR’s summer long YVR Take-Off Fridays, features great prizes and expert paper airplane making guidance from BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus instructor Ralph Heldt, who will be onsite teaching the basics behind building a paper airplane that will go the distance.

4th Annual Whey-ah-Wichen Canoe Festival

First Nation paddling teams will compete in traditional canoe races on Burrard Inlet along the foreshore of Whey-Ah-Wichen / Cates Park. The Whey-Ah-Wichen Canoe Festival, hosted by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, is a free, family friendly event, open to the public.  The Whey-Ah-Wichen Canoe Festival at Cates Park is hosted by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. You'll have a chance to watch the competitive paddle races.  Along with the canoe races, the festival will include displays, Aboriginal arts and crafts booths, and cash-only food concession with delicious, freshly barbecued salmon.

Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival

Wiener Dog Races

Come enjoy one of Vancouver’s most popular event as the city’s best Wiener Dogs battle to see who is the Top Dog. First horse race is at 1:50 p.m. with wiener dog racing scattered in between horse races. No admission to the racetrack and the races are free to watch. These cute dogs will race a small portion of the track in a total of 8 heats and the final race will be on Sunday.

Museum of Vancouver's Upcycled Urbanism
700 Block Granville Street, between Georgia and Robson
Upcycled Urbanism is a participatory project that invites students, artists, designers, makers, and anyone with a even a smidgen of creativity to re-imagine and rebuild parts of Vancouver’s public realm. Working together, teams of participants have designed and built prototypes using modular blocks of expanded polystyrene containing material salvaged from construction sites around the Lower Mainland by Mansonville Plastics. Everyone is welcome. To join one of the design+build teams, email upcycledurbanism@museumofvancouver.ca. If you just want to help build, or play with our creations, or just watch, join us at VIVA Vancouver on Saturday July 13. We'll be creating spectacular styro-interventions on the 700 Block Granville Street, between Georgia and Robson.

Ambleside Day is a community event hosted at Ambleside beach promoting water safety and active lifestyles . This year's event will include a lifeguard challenge, face painting, relay races between kids and lifeguards, a BBQ, a water safety booth, a boating safety booth, a community program booth and also a few stations where kids can try using the equipment that lifeguards use on a daily basis.  Come to Ambleside Beach for a day of fun, learning and competition (friendly, of course!).

25th Annual Symphony in the Park

In this free evening concert, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra showcases the beauty of Burnaby’s Deer Lake Park while offering a crowd-pleasing program of light classics and popular favourites.
