Brunch at MARKET by Jean-Georges

On Saturday, I enjoyed a nice brunch with my friend M at MARKET, which is located at 1115 Alberni Street. It is the first Jean-Georges restaurant in Canada and the menu features Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's greatest hits. I have been to MARKET before and it is M's favourite restaurant as well, but we both haven't had brunch there so we were in for a treat!

We opted to sit on the patio since it was a nice day but it was a little noisy because of the construction across the street.

We had the Brunch Prix Fixe which includes a choice of two plates and a dessert which is only $29.

Complimentary bread basket with butter. The bread was very warm and just what I needed when the breeze blew through the patio. I also really loved the bread sticks.

We decided to each get different plates so that we can try each others. We were very certain of what we wanted for the appetizers, the steamed shrimp salad and seared scallops called to us the moment we saw them on the menu and our choice was solidified by the recommendation of our server and even the waiter that brought out our plates commented on our good choices.

Steamed Shrimp Salad, Tender Greens, Avocado, Champagne Dressing
The Steamed Shrimp Salad was amazing! M had the bulk of this but definitely I would order this plate again and have it all to myself!

Seared Scallops, Caramelized Cauliflower, Caper-Raisin Emulsion
The Seared Scallops were pretty good too. Cooked to perfection and beautifully plated. Of course, it's only three scallops so I couldn't wait for my main.

Slowly Cooked Steelhead, Sugar Snap Peas, Truffle Mashed Potatoes
M ordered the Steelhead since she didn't want breakfast breakfast food. That was one I would have ordered too and one our server recommended. It was a really light dish, even the mashed potatoes weren't rich and heavy. Great for lunch!

French Toast with Roasted Apples and Crispy Bacon
Our server also recommended the French Toast which he said was one of MARKET's signature dishes. It was like eating dessert for lunch! It came with a cup of maple syrup, which I poured over the bacon. Mmmm. Candied bacon. The bread was crunchy on the outside and very fluffy on the inside. It was tasteless by itself so you have to eat it with the bacon and apples and maple syrup together. Salty, sour and sweet. It was great!
Chocolate Pudding, Softly Whipped Cream, Crystallized Violets
The Chocolate pudding was the only one I haven't tried but it does look delicious!

MARKET Cheesecake, Lemon Cream, Blueberry Sorbet
I had the Cheesecake for dessert. It was a perfect portion after my bout with the French bread. This is also a dish where you have to eat all the ingredients all together (with the exception of the wafer lol). The blueberry sorbet is very tart on its own but with the cheesecake and lemon cream it was an awesome mixture of flavours. Mmmm.

I really enjoyed the brunch and would love to come back. I saw another table order the Dunguness crab bennie and it comes with a crab shell! I would love to try that!
